LADY SHEILA - Cornwall & Devon

The Lady Sheila is one of those wrecks that just gets under your skin. We love how she sits upright, almost intact, making her feel more like a time capsule than just a pile of metal. Dropping down, you’re greeted by the ghostly outline of the wheelhouse, often shrouded in a shoal of pout. Inside the hull, where the cargo once sat, conger eels have set up shop in every nook and cranny. Keep an eye out for dogfish tucked into the sand nearby, and the occasional lobster peeking from beneath a collapsed bulkhead. We'd suggest a calm day with good visibility for your first visit. The site can be exposed, and a bit of current isn't uncommon, so it’s best for divers comfortable with a bit of movement. Our favourite part? Finning along the deck, imagining the final moments, before descending into the stern where the propeller blades are still visible, often encrusted with dead man's fingers. It’s a proper British wreck dive, full of atmosphere and life, perfect for divers who appreciate history and the way the sea reclaims its own.
