LOIC LUCAS - Cornwall & Devon

The Loic Lucas, a modern fishing vessel, went down in 2013 after a collision, settling upright on the seabed at 47 metres. For us, what makes this wreck so compelling isn't its age, but its stark newness underwater. You can still feel the ghost of its working life – the wheelhouse is largely intact, and the deck gear, winches, and rigging are all there, frozen in time. We love dropping down onto its bridge, often finding conger eels peering from every nook. The stern is particularly photogenic, where the propeller still sits defiantly. Because it’s a relatively recent wreck, the soft corals haven't quite smothered everything, letting you appreciate the structure itself. You’ll spot crabs scuttling over the plating and schools of pollack often schooling above the mast, which still stands tall. It’s a site that really rewards careful exploration for experienced deep divers. Visibility can be hit or miss in the Channel, so we’d always suggest checking conditions and planning your dive for slack water to make the most of the penetration opportunities.
