LUCINDA (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Lucinda, or what we think is the Lucinda, is a truly special dive, sitting upright and mostly intact on a flat seabed. Dropping down to 49 metres, you’ll find the wooden hull incredibly preserved, a real testament to its 1914 sinking. We love the way the timbers have held their shape, creating dark nooks and crannies for conger eels to lurk. This isn’t a rummage wreck; it’s an exploration. You can swim over the deck, peer into the holds, and imagine it as a sailing vessel, not just a structure on the seabed. There are usually plenty of dogfish patrolling the perimeter and the occasional large pollack hanging motionless above the mast stumps. Our favourite part is the bow, often swarming with pouting, their silver bodies reflecting your torch beam. Visibility here can be a lottery, sometimes a clear 10 metres, other times a moody 3. We’d suggest picking your day carefully and planning a slack water dive to avoid any strong tides across the site. It’s a dive for experienced wreck lovers, those who appreciate history and the quiet beauty of a well-preserved wooden ship.
