MAGICIEN - Cornwall & Devon

The Magician, a trawler resting at 33 metres, is one of our favourite Cornish wrecks. It’s a proper dive, often with a bit of current to keep you honest, but the rewards are there. Dropping onto the stern, you’re greeted by a busy scene: conger eels peeking from every crevice, lobsters waving antennae from under plates of twisted metal. The wheelhouse is still largely intact, a skeletal frame offering good penetration for those with the right training, and it’s here we often find schools of pollock circling, their silver scales glinting in the gloom. Further forward, the deck equipment is scattered but recognisable. We love picking out the winch gear, now completely encrusted with dead man's fingers and anemones. The bow section has collapsed a little more, creating dramatic swim-throughs where you might spot a bull huss tucked away. Visibility here can swing wildly, but on a good day, the Magician feels expansive, drawing you into its history. It’s a site that really suits experienced wreck divers who appreciate the character of a working vessel reclaimed by the sea.
