Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - MFV 9 offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The MFV 9, sunk in November 1971 as a target, offers a straightforward wreck dive off the Cornwall coast. Resting at 31 metres, it's a solid choice for those looking to explore a reasonably intact fishing vessel. We've found the prop and rudder area particularly interesting, often hosting a healthy collection of conger eels tucked into the framework. The main deck structure provides shelter for dogfish and the occasional lobster, making for a relaxed exploration around the wheelhouse area. It's a dive best suited for advanced open water divers comfortable with the depth and the often-variable UK visibility.
