PAGENTURM - Cornwall & Devon
The Pagenturm, off the coast of Cornwall, is more than just a wreck; she's a piece of maritime history, a former German steamship torpedoed by a German submarine in 1917. What remains is spread across a sandy seabed at 28 metres, a sprawling site for a dive. You’ll spend most of your bottom time piecing together the scale of this leviathan, the bow pointing west and the stern to the east. We love how the hull plates have collapsed outwards, creating overhangs and swim-throughs where conger eels lurk, their heads poking out from the shadows. The sheer size of her engines is impressive, still largely intact and surrounded by schools of pouting. Look closely, and you’ll spot spider crabs making their slow, deliberate journeys across the metalwork, a vibrant orange against the dark steel. Given the depth and potential for currents, this is one for experienced wreck divers. Our top tip: aim for a slack tide window; it makes navigating the larger debris field much more enjoyable, letting you really take in the scale of the wreck without fighting the water.
