PEARN PRIDE (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Pearn Pride, lying at 47 metres, is one of those wrecks we’re always happy to return to, even if the visibility can be a bit… “Cornish.” It’s a small fishing vessel, only 11.6 metres, that went down in ’91 after a rogue swell rolled her. What we love about her is that she’s surprisingly intact for her size and age, especially the wheelhouse. You can still make out the outline of the stern deck gear, and the prop shaft is a clear landmark. She’s well-colonised now. We often find conger eels tucked into the deeper recesses, and the open holds usually have some decent sized pollack hovering. The structure is covered in plumose anemones, their frilly heads swaying gently in the subtle current. We’d suggest a slack water dive, naturally, and good lights are essential to cut through the gloom and pick out the details. It’s a site for experienced wreck divers comfortable with depth, offering a quiet, contemplative dive into a piece of local maritime history.
