With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - POLKA offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Polka, a steamship that sank back in 1850, sits in a shallow bay, making it a surprisingly accessible bit of history. At just 5m deep, it’s less about penetration and more about exploring the scattered remains of the hull and machinery. We've found the wreck provides a home for wrasse, blennies, and the occasional crab scuttling amongst the metal plates. It’s a great spot for newer divers, or anyone looking for a relaxed bimble with a genuine sense of the past, especially when the light catches the kelp draped over the old iron.
