ROYSTONS FREEDOM - Cornwall & Devon
Dropping onto the Roystons Freedom, you’re met with the ghostly silhouette of a sailing vessel, which went down rather dramatically in 1979 when its hull gave way to an "unidentified underwater object." It sits deep, around 51 meters, making it one for experienced divers comfortable with deeper profiles and potentially colder waters. The wreck itself has become a haven; we’ve often found conger eels peeking from crevices and large schools of pollack circling the masts. Penetration is probably not the main draw here, but the sheer scale of the vessel, and imagining its final moments, makes for a captivating dive.
