SALADO - Cornwall & Devon
The Salado, a steamship that went down in 1897, rests in a remarkably shallow 3 metres of water, making it more of a snorkel or very calm, shallow dive site than a deep exploration. What’s left of her 84-metre frame is pretty broken up, but you can still make out the general shape and some of the larger structural pieces. We’ve seen plenty of wrasse darting between the metalwork and a surprising number of crabs tucked into crevices. It’s a good spot if you’re looking for a relaxed surface experience, perhaps a last dip of the day, or just want to spend some time floating over a piece of history. Just be aware that strong currents can sweep through here, so pick a calm day.
