SCHOKLAND - Cornwall & Devon
The Schokland, a steamship that went down in 1943 after hitting a rock, sits upright in about 22 metres of water off the coast. She’s definitely a proper wreck dive, with her triple expansion engine still visible, adding some real character to the site. The bow section is pretty broken up, but you can still pick out the schooner rig and that single tall funnel. Being a wreck for so long, she’s become home to plenty of local critters – we’ve seen conger eels poking out from the gloom and plenty of wrasse darting through the structure. It’s a good one for experienced divers who appreciate exploring a piece of history, rather than a pristine reef.
