With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - SS FATFIELD offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The SS Fatfield lies deep, a proper technical dive at 45 metres off the Cornish coast. What was once a steamship is now a solid wreck, settled upright and largely intact, making for some dramatic exploration. We usually find schools of pollock circling the superstructure, and the holds often shelter conger eels, tucked into the gloom. It’s a site that rewards careful planning and good bottom time, perfect for experienced wreck divers looking to penetrate or just take in the scale of a substantial vessel. You’ll want to check the tides; strong currents here can make the descent a bit of a workout.
