ST CROIX - Cornwall & Devon
The ST CROIX, a steamship torpedoed in 1917, rests at 43 meters off the Cornish coast. Dropping onto the wreck, you'll find her largely broken up, but sections of hull and machinery are still discernible, creating interesting swim-throughs for those with the right training. Schools of pollack dart between the twisted metal, and we often spot conger eels tucked into the darker recesses. It’s a dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts, a proper deep technical outing that rewards careful navigation and a keen eye for history, especially given its wartime story. Just remember that Cornish currents can be feisty here, so pick your slack water window carefully.
