With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - STALHEIM offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Stalheim, a steamship that met its end in 1940 after hitting a mine, rests in shallow water off the Cornwall and Devon coast. At just 6 metres, this is a wreck dive accessible to most, though we’d suggest good buoyancy control helps here. The remains are spread across the seabed, giving you a chance to trace the outline of its 76.5-metre length. Expect to find conger eels tucked into shadowy nooks and flatfish camouflaged on the sandy patches surrounding the twisted metal. It’s a good spot for a relaxed dive, especially when the visibility plays ball, offering a peek into a piece of wartime history.
