TREGOR - Cornwall & Devon

Tregor is one of those deeper wrecks that really sticks with you, a proper metal playground if you've got the gas and the training. Dropping down onto her, you immediately feel that sense of history – bombed in '41 en-route to Hayle, then towed and lost close to Trevose Head. She's mostly broken up now, but the sections are still very much identifiable, offering some great swim-throughs and plenty of cover for the residents. We love the way the light filters through the kelp on the shallower parts, then gives way to the moody greens and blues as you descend. Look out for the resident conger eels, they’re often lurking in the darker corners, and the bib and pollack dart in and out of the plating. The deeper sections require careful planning, but the sense of exploration down there, tracing the lines of her hull, is superb. Visibility can be a bit of a gamble, as with much of the Cornish coast, but on a good day, it’s truly magical. Our pick for a good dive here would be a slack tide, definitely. She's a fantastic dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts, a real piece of history colonised by the sea.
