U 741 - Cornwall & Devon
Dropping onto the U 741, you hit the bow first, often the best preserved part of this German Type VIIC U-boat. She’s deep, sitting upright at 52 metres, so this isn't a casual splash-in. We've found the conning tower still identifiable, a stark silhouette against the open water, even if decades of current have taken their toll. You’ll weave past torpedo tubes, now home to plump conger eels, and spot spider crabs scuttling over corroded metal. The scale of her, 67 metres long, gives you a sense of history down there, a moment frozen in 1944. It's a dive for those who appreciate military history and can manage the depth.
