Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - UB 74 offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
Dropping onto the UB 74, you’re met with a surprisingly intact U-boat, considering its end in 1918. Lying upright at 33 metres, its conning tower is still prominent, a really clear focal point as you descend. We often find conger eels peering from the torpedo tubes and a good scattering of pollack patrolling the decks. The wreck is covered in dead man's fingers and colourful jewel anemones, adding a vibrant layer to the steel. It's a dive that suits those with some wreck experience who appreciate maritime history and don't mind a bit of a current.
