Irish Scuba Academy - Northumberland & Northeast
The team at Irish Scuba Academy are a breath of fresh air in the sometimes-chilly waters of the Northeast. We’ve always appreciated their no-nonsense approach to diving, which somehow still manages to be incredibly welcoming. They’re PADI through and through, running a solid range of courses from beginner open water to more advanced specialities. It’s a great pick if you’re looking to get certified locally, or if you’re a newer diver wanting to build confidence before tackling some of the area’s more demanding sites. What we love about them is how they make the most of the Northumberland coast. While the visibility can be a bit hit or miss, usually around 5-10 metres on an average day, they know the sweet spots. We’ve had some cracking dives with them around St Mary's Lighthouse, spotting curious seals and exploring the kelp forests. They’re brilliant at easing you into the colder water, making sure everyone’s comfortable before heading out. Our favourite time to dive with them is late summer; the water has warmed a degree or two and the light filtering through the kelp is just something else. It feels less like a school and more like diving with a really organised group of mates.
