CONSORT - Scapa Flow, Orkney
The Consort sits in shallow water, a ghostly sentinel. It’s a fishing vessel, but calling it just that misses the point entirely. This wreck feels like stepping back in time, even more so when the light filters down through the Scapa Flow green. We love how accessible it is, a perfect training ground for divers new to wrecks, or for anyone wanting to spend a long, relaxed dive exploring. Her shallow depth, around 13 meters, means plenty of bottom time. We've spent many an hour poking around the hold, imagining the nets hauled in. What really makes Consort special for us, though, is the sheer amount of life that calls her home. Cod hang out in the shadows, big ones, and the deck is carpeted in anemones and dead man’s fingers. The colours here, muted but everywhere, are genuinely captivating. If you’re looking for a deep, challenging dive, this isn’t it. But for a genuinely atmospheric wreck that tells a story, and a chance to truly connect with the history of the Flow, Consort is our pick. Just watch for old fishing line; it's still about in places.
