EBANEZER - Scapa Flow, Orkney

The EBANEZER is not the colossal battleship wreck you typically picture in Scapa Flow, and frankly, we love that about it. This is a much more intimate dive, a small fishing vessel sitting upright at 54m, almost perfectly intact. Descending onto her deck, you can imagine the trawler working its nets, an echo of a bygone era, now completely given over to the sea. What makes the EBANEZER special is how accessible her interior is. We’ve spent dives just poking around the wheelhouse, seeing the gauges and steering gear still in place, the brass glinting under our lights. Below deck, the hold is open, a cavern now home to plump wolf fish and ling, their eyes reflecting the torch beams. The wreck itself acts as an artificial reef, attracting everything from wrasse to curious conger eels peeking out from behind a bulkhead. It’s a gentle, contemplative dive, a perfect counterpoint to the more imposing Scapa giants, and a fantastic experience for technical divers looking to explore a piece of history that feels remarkably preserved. Go on a slack tide, obviously. You want to properly explore this one, not fight current.
