With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - H 145 offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The H 145, a German destroyer scuttled in 1919, lies in a shallow 7 metres of water in Scapa Flow. This site is quite literally a tangled mess of metal, but that’s its charm. We found it a fantastic spot for divers new to wreck diving or those looking for a relaxed, longer bottom time. The destroyer is heavily broken up, with plates and girders scattered across the seabed, creating interesting swim-throughs and plenty of nooks for small crabs and blennies. Visibility here often exceeds expectations, especially on a calm day, letting you really take your time examining the wreck’s fragmented structure.
