With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - LANS offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The LANS, a stern trawler that went down in 1974, now lies split across the rocks at Berry Head. She’s shallow, only 5 metres, making it an easy dive for most, even those newer to wreck diving. What we find interesting here is how the sea has completely reclaimed her; the bow and stern are separated, and the exposed machinery has become home to plenty of wrasse and crabs. It’s a great spot for a relaxed exploration, poking around the broken structure and watching the resident fish go about their business.
