With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - S 36 (BOW SECTION) offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The bow section of the S 36 destroyer sits upright, a proper introduction to Scapa Flow's wreck diving. You'll find it fairly intact, the forecastle providing plenty of nooks and crannies to poke around in, often with a curious wrasse or two darting out. It’s a nice, easy dive for shaking out the cobwebs, particularly if you’re getting reacquainted with drysuit diving or just want a relaxed potter on a historical wreck. We often see plumose anemones carpeting sections of the hull, adding a splash of colour to the steel.

Wreck site - avoid penetration without wreck diving certification. Watch for sharp metal and entanglement hazards.
Cold water this month (avg 13°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
