S 55 - Scapa Flow, Orkney
The S 55, a German destroyer, rests upright in Scapa Flow, an easy dive at just 13 metres. We find her surprisingly intact for a scuttled wreck, stretching nearly 83 metres along the seabed. You can swim the length of the deck, spotting gun mounts now encrusted with colourful anemones and dead man's fingers. Visibility varies, but on a good day, the light penetration at this shallow depth really picks out the details of the superstructure. It’s a comfortable dive, perfect for newer wreck enthusiasts or those looking for a relaxed tour through history.
