With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - S131 offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The S131 in Scapa Flow offers a solid dive for those keen on naval history without the extreme depths. This destroyer, scuttled back in 1919, rests at a very accessible 15 metres. We usually find its 82.9-metre length well-colonised with anemones and the occasional inquisitive wrasse, especially around the more intact sections of the bow. It’s a site that rewards careful exploration, perfect for divers who appreciate the sheer scale of these vessels and want to spend time absorbing the atmosphere. Expect decent visibility on a good day, but Scapa can always surprise you.
