With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - SEALGAIR offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Sealpair, a fishing vessel that sank in 1979, now rests in the shallower reaches of Scapa Flow. At a maximum depth of just one metre, this is more of a snorkel or wade than a dive, but it’s still worth a look for the historical connection and the surprising amount of life that calls it home. The remains of the hull are easily visible, broken but still retaining the outline of a working boat. We’ve seen small pollack darting amongst the twisted metal and various crabs scuttling over the growth. It’s a nice way to experience a piece of Scapa Flow’s wreck history without needing to kit up for a full dive.
