SHELBRIT 1 - Scapa Flow, Orkney
The Shelbrit 1 sits upright in just 15 metres, a tanker torpedoed in 1940. We find her surprisingly intact for a wartime casualty, her bow section particularly well-preserved. You can swim through the holds, which are now home to inquisitive wrasse and velvet swimming crabs scuttling amongst the plates. The depth makes this a solid choice for newer wreck divers keen to explore a piece of history without the usual Scapa Flow currents or chill. Visibility here can swing a bit, but on a good day, the light penetration through the shallower sections is quite lovely.
