With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - SILVER REWARD offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The *Silver Reward*, a 23-meter fishing vessel, sits upright off the northwest coast of Priest Island. It’s a good little dive if you're keen on exploring a more modern wreck, a nice contrast to some of the bigger historic behemoths in Scapa. You can poke around the wheelhouse and engine room, and it’s a pretty easy penetration for those with the right training. Schools of juvenile pollock often mill about the superstructure, and we’ve seen some decent-sized crabs tucked away in the holds. It's a comfortable dive for anyone with some experience in colder waters, often less current than the deeper sites.
Safety Notes
Wreck site - avoid penetration without wreck diving certification. Watch for sharp metal and entanglement hazards.
Cold water this month (avg 13°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
