TENNESSEE - Scapa Flow, Orkney
The TENNESSEE isn't one of Scapa's colossal blockships, but it's a wonderfully accessible dive, perfect for stretching out surface intervals or for newer wreck divers. Lying in just 10 metres, this motor vessel went down in 1940 after a collision, and what remains is a well-broken wreck, spread across a silty seabed. We've spent many an hour poking around its scattered plates and framework, finding lobsters tucked into crevices and plump wrasse patrolling the twisted metal. It's an atmospheric dive, often with good visibility, offering a tangible connection to Scapa Flow's wartime history without the deeper, more demanding aspects of some of the bigger sites.
