UNITY - Scapa Flow, Orkney
The UNITY wreck is a good dive for those new to Scapa Flow’s wrecks, or anyone looking for a relaxed second dive. She was a fishing vessel, sunk in 1996 while being towed, so she sits upright on the seabed at 21 metres. We’ve found her relatively intact, giving you a chance to swim around the wheelhouse and deck, often spotting wrasse darting between the metalwork and the occasional inquisitive conger eel peeking from a dark corner. Because there’s no fuel or oil on board, it feels clean, and the visibility is usually pretty decent for Scapa Flow. It’s a nice introduction to the area’s history, without the deeper depths or stronger currents you find on some of the larger German fleet wrecks.
