The Angus, a Blockship sitting upright in Scapa Flow, really is a cracking dive. We love the way she’s mostly intact, offering plenty of nooks and crannies to poke around in, unlike some of the more broken up wrecks in the Flow. Dropping onto her deck, you’re often greeted by a shimmer of light reflecting off the sandy bottom, especially on a bright day. Look for the resident wrasse darting between the deck plates and keep an eye out for inquisitive conger eels peeking from beneath twisted metal. It’s an ideal site for divers who want to experience the history of Scapa Flow without the depth or complexity of the German High Seas Fleet. Penetration is possible in some of the holds, but always exercise caution and ensure you’re appropriately trained and equipped. The visibility here can be surprisingly good, particularly on an incoming tide when fresh Atlantic water sweeps through, making the details of the rust and the colourful anemones clinging to the superstructure really pop.

    Safety Notes

Wreck site - avoid penetration without wreck diving certification. Watch for sharp metal and entanglement hazards.

Cold water this month (avg 13°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
