Wreck of Doyle - Scapa Flow, Orkney
The HMS Calypso, a C-class light cruiser sunk in 1917, is one of our favourite wreck dives in Crete, and a genuinely rewarding experience for divers who appreciate a bit of history beneath the waves. We’d suggest you aim for early morning dives; the light penetration is incredible, illuminating the bow section and the gun turrets. You’ll weave through the collapsed decks, catching glimpses of the ship's massive engines now encrusted in sponges and anemones. Look closely, and you’ll spot moray eels peeking from portholes and schools of damselfish flitting through the superstructure. It's a proper wreck dive, best suited for those comfortable with deeper profiles and penetrations into the larger compartments.
