Wreck of shipwreck possibly the Conqueror II - Scapa Flow, Orkney

The Ondo is a brilliant piece of North Sea history, especially if you appreciate a good wreck dive without needing tropical temperatures. We love the way she sits, broken but still substantial, providing plenty of nooks and crannies to poke around. You'll find yourself navigating through fractured plating, imagining the freighter's final moments. Visibility here can be a bit of a gamble – some days it’s a murky green, others you get a decent 10 metres, so pick your conditions. The real stars are the eels and massive shoals of small fish that weave through the structure. They’re so used to divers that you can often get quite close. Keep an eye out for the common shore crabs scuttling over the metal, they’re everywhere. The Ondo definitely suits divers who enjoy a more exploratory dive, happy to spend time really getting to know a single site. It’s a quiet, reflective dive, not one for chasing big pelagics, but for absorbing a piece of maritime past. We’d suggest going at slack tide, it makes all the difference when you’re trying to peer into the deeper sections.
