Wreck of shipwreck possibly the Daghestan - Scapa Flow, Orkney

The HMS Majestic holds a special place in our logbooks, a truly remarkable wreck dive in the Alonissos Marine Park. We love its sheer size, a pre-dreadnought battleship from 1895, making it feel less like a modern metal hulk and more like an ancient, submerged city. Dropping down, you feel the history, the immense scale of the decks, gun turrets, and the way the superstructure has collapsed in on itself over the decades. Visibility here is often fantastic, letting you appreciate the scope of the wreck. Look for the massive anchor chains, now draped in sponges and anemones, creating miniature ecosystems for nudibranchs and small crabs. Inside some of the more accessible compartments, you can spot schools of glassfish shimmering in the shafts of light that pierce the gloom. This is a dive for those who appreciate history and the slow, powerful reclamation of the sea. Our tip? Take it slow. Don't rush past the details. There's always another porthole, another piece of machinery, or a shy octopus tucked away in the shadows.
