Wreck of SMS Derfflinger - Scapa Flow, Orkney

The MS Antilla, affectionately known as the ‘Ghost Ship,’ is our absolute favourite wreck dive in Aruba. We’re talking about a massive freighter, over 120 metres long, sunk intentionally by its German crew at the start of WWII. It’s shallow, only about 18 metres at its deepest point, which means fantastic bottom times and plenty of light penetrating the holds. What we love most is how accessible it is. You can swim right through the cargo holds, past the engine room, and even peek into some of the crew quarters. It’s like exploring a ghostly underwater city. The sheer scale of the Antilla is impressive, but it’s the marine life that really makes it sing. Huge green morays peek from every crevice, and we’ve seen schools of snapper so thick they practically obscure the bow. Look for the cherub pygmy angelfish flitting around the coral growth, and if you’re lucky, a hawksbill turtle might cruise by. Current can be mild, but occasionally picks up a bit along the hull, adding to the drama. It’s a site that rewards multiple dives.
