Scapa Flow is littered with history, but some of our favourite dives are the ones where you piece together the story yourself. The Canmore 101715, often just called the "Unnamed Shipwreck," is a perfect example. We love the mystery of this particular wreck, lying broken on the seabed. It’s not one of the famous German High Seas Fleet scuttles, and that's precisely its charm. You’ll find yourself finning over a scattering of ribs and plating, sometimes a clear section of hull, sometimes just a jumble that speaks of an old timber ship. The visibility here, typical for Scapa, can be... moody, but when it clears, the way the light filters through the green water onto the shadowy structure is something else. It feels like uncovering a secret. We’d suggest a good dive light to really pick out the details, and take your time to scour the seabed around the main wreckage; you often find stray artefacts that hint at its past cargo or purpose. It's a dive for those who appreciate history and don't need a perfectly intact vessel. The crab and lobster hiding in the crevices are an added bonus, and you’ll often spot a curious dogfish cruising by.

    Safety Notes
