Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 101789 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

Scapa Flow, even on a calm day, has a certain gravitas. You feel the history before you even kit up. While the big German fleet wrecks get all the glory, we love poking around the smaller, less-dived sites, and Canmore 101789, the "Unnamed Shipwreck," is a fantastic example. What she is, exactly, remains a bit of a mystery, but that just adds to the intrigue. Descending onto her, you find a jumble of twisted metal and recognisable ship structure, now softened by decades of growth. Think plumose anemones, their white frills swaying gently, and dead man's fingers in oranges and purples clinging to every surface. Light filters down, often greenish, but enough to illuminate the curious cod and blennies that dart between the frames. It's an atmospheric dive, perfect for those who appreciate the quiet beauty of a wreck reclaimed by the sea and enjoy a good historical puzzle. We'd suggest going at slack water to really take your time and explore the details.
