Scapa Flow is littered with history, but some of the most intriguing dives are those without a definitive name. This particular ‘Unnamed Shipwreck’ – Canmore 101806 – is a fantastic example. We love the mystery here, diving a piece of history still waiting for its full story to be told. The structure itself is substantial, a framework of ribs and plates that feels more like an artificial reef than a fallen vessel. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the light, diffused and green, making the wreck seem to glow faintly. Conger eels are a common sight, often peeking out from beneath plates or from within the deeper shadows. Crabs scuttle across the metal, and we’ve seen some decent-sized lobsters tucked away. The growth on the wreck is stunning, a thick carpet of anemones, soft corals, and hydroids that give the metal a surprisingly vibrant texture. It’s a dive that encourages slow exploration, poking into every crevice, imagining the life of the ship before it came to rest here. Visibility can vary, but generally, Scapa Flow offers decent conditions for this kind of exploration. Our advice? Bring a good torch and take your time. This wreck rewards patience.

    Safety Notes

Wreck site - avoid penetration without wreck diving certification. Watch for sharp metal and entanglement hazards.

Cold water this month (avg 13°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
