Diving a Scapa Flow "unnamed shipwreck" is always a bit of a lottery, but Canmore 101815 usually delivers. We often find this one a surprisingly atmospheric dive, especially if the light is playing through the water just right. You’ll settle onto a seabed often dotted with discarded coal and then the structure starts to emerge from the gloom. It’s not one of the big German battleships, obviously, but that’s part of its charm. This wreck, likely a Blockship, is more about the texture of time underwater. Ribs of steel, often draped in dead man’s fingers, reach up, creating little grottoes where cod hang out. We love seeing the nudibranchs here, particularly the leopard slugs, meticulously grazing the hull plates. Look inside for squat lobsters peeking from dark corners. Visibility can be a real factor in Scapa, but on a good day, the silhouette of this wreck against the green-grey light is really quite striking. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the quiet history of Scapa, more than just the sheer scale of the larger wrecks. Come here when you want a slower, more contemplative dive.
