Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 101828 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

The *Carolina Thorden* sits upright, an accessible and rewarding dive for anyone exploring Scapa Flow’s incredible history. We especially love the engine room here. It’s a highlight, with huge boilers and machinery that still feel incredibly intact, despite the years. Swim-throughs are plentiful, not too tight, and the light filtering in through the various deck openings creates dramatic shafts of green. What you'll see is a wreck thoroughly colonised by the sea, but still very much a ship. Saithe hang in the shadows, watchful. Look closely and you’ll find Corkwing wrasse flitting amongst the rivets and plating, picking at the knotted wrack. We’ve even spotted Common shore crabs scuttling over the davits. It’s a great site for divers who appreciate the blend of maritime history and thriving temperate marine life, without demanding deep technical skills. Just be mindful of the currents around the Flow; Slack water is always our pick.
