The "Unnamed Shipwreck" in Scapa Flow, marked as Canmore 101916, feels like diving into a cold steel ghost story. We love this site because it’s not about some famous battleship, it’s about the raw, haunting presence of a ship that simply... ended up here. You drift down into the murky green, and the structure slowly resolves from the gloom-a skeletal frame, often shrouded in the particulate matter that makes Scapa Flow so atmospheric. Exploring it, you’ll find sections of hull plating draped in kelp, like tattered flags. Dogfish and conger eels often lurk in the deeper, darker sections, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large lobsters tucked into crevices. This isn't a site for coral, obviously, but the anenomes and hydroids that coat the metal are just as striking in their own way. Our favourite time to dive it is on a slack tide, with a good quality torch, so you can really pick out the details that tell its untold story. It’s perfect for divers who appreciate the history and quiet melancholy of a forgotten vessel, rather than a bustling reef.
