Scapa Flow holds more secrets than just the famous German High Seas Fleet, and this unnamed wreck, Canmore 101922, is a brilliant example. It’s not one of the big names, but we love it for its unexpected charm and genuine sense of discovery. Dropping down, you’ll find sections of hull plating and framework, now completely encrusted with plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently in the slight surge. Exploring here feels like uncovering history, a tangible link to the past that the sea has now fully reclaimed. Our favourite part is poking around the scattered debris field – you'll often find conger eels tucked into crevices, their heads peering out, or crabs scuttling across the metalwork. The visibility can be typical Scapa, ranging from good to a bit silty, so bring a strong torch to really light up the colours of the anemones and the dark corners. This wreck is perfect for divers who appreciate the quieter, more contemplative dives, where the atmosphere and the details outweigh sheer size. It’s less about penetration, more about soaking in the history and the surprisingly vibrant life that has made a home on this forgotten steel.

    Safety Notes

Wreck site - avoid penetration without wreck diving certification. Watch for sharp metal and entanglement hazards.

Cold water this month (avg 13°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
