Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 102156

Scapa Flow has so many named wrecks, but sometimes the unnamed ones really surprise you. This particular unidentified wreck, recorded as Canmore 102156, offers a fantastic look at how a ship can truly become part of the seabed. We love how the metalwork, a bit broken up in places, has transformed into an artificial reef, drawing in an incredible amount of life. Dropping down, you’re greeted by walls of plumose anemones, their feathery tentacles swaying with the gentle surge. Crabs scuttle from under plates of steel, and the gaps between rusted girders provide perfect shelter for curious conger eels. Our favourite part has to be finning slowly along the length of it, piecing together the ship’s original form from the scattered structure. It's not a massive intact vessel, but it’s an immersive experience for those who appreciate the slower exploration of a site, ideal for divers who get a kick out of spotting the small stuff in a big setting. If you’re willing to take your time, you’ll find some real beauty here.
