Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 102893 - Scapa Flow, Orkney

The 'Unnamed Shipwreck', or Canmore 102893 as it’s officially listed, isn't one of Scapa Flow's big German fleet names, and we love that about it. It means you often have it to yourself. This is a brilliant dive if you’re into the archaeology of smaller vessels and how they become part of the seabed. We often find the visibility here to be surprisingly good, especially on a neap tide, letting you pick out details on the hull plates. Drop onto this wreck and you're immediately struck by the sheer amount of life that has claimed it. Ling and cod lurk in the shadowed holds, their eyes following your torch beam. The wreck itself isn't massive, but the growth is incredible – plumose anemones, dead man's fingers, and colourful hydroids coat every surface. It feels like exploring a forgotten, barnacle-encrusted time capsule rather than a giant warship. We'd suggest taking your time, really peering into the crevices; you'll often spot squat lobsters or even a curious wolf fish eyeing you from the gloom. It’s perfect for divers who appreciate the quieter, more intimate side of wreck diving, away from the crowds of the Grand Fleet.
