Scapa Flow. Just the name conjures images of hulking steel, history, and a chill that bites even through a drysuit. The Unnamed Shipwreck, Canmore 102939, is one of those quieter sites we love. It’s not one of the grand German battleships, but that’s precisely its charm. This is a chance to explore a smaller, more intimate piece of history, allowing you to really get a feel for the structure without the overwhelming scale of a König or a Brummer. Dropping down, the light filters through the green-blue water, often with that distinctive Scapa Flow haze. You can make out the shadowy outline, and as you get closer, the details emerge. We love picking our way through the more open sections, imagining what purpose each plate and beam once served. It’s colonised now, of course, by the usual suspects – plumose anemones, their feathery heads swaying gently, and plenty of wrasse darting in and out of the crevices. Look closely, and you’ll often spot a squat lobster clinging to an overhang. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the quiet dignity of a wreck, the slow process of marine life reclaiming steel, and a moment to reflect on the stories beneath the waves. Best dived on a slack tide, naturally, to really soak it all in.

    Safety Notes
