Scapa Flow’s a big place, full of big wrecks, but sometimes it’s the smaller, more enigmatic ones that stick with you. The Unnamed Shipwreck, Canmore 103008, is one of those. We love it because it’s a proper mystery – no grand history to read up on, just the silent bones of a ship resting on the seabed. You descend into that typical Scapa green water, and suddenly, the shape emerges, often draped in long, swaying kelp. It’s not as intact as some of the German fleet, more broken up, but that means plenty of nooks and crannies to peer into. Dogfish often tuck themselves into sheltered spots, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large lobsters here, scuttling back into the shadows. The broken plating creates fantastic overhangs where small shoals of fish hang out, twitching nervously as your bubbles drift past. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the quiet history, the texture of aged metal, and the thrill of exploring something that feels genuinely undiscovered, even if it’s been mapped. Come on a day with less current, and take your time; the atmosphere here is incredible.

    Safety Notes

Wreck site - avoid penetration without wreck diving certification. Watch for sharp metal and entanglement hazards.

Cold water this month (avg 13°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
