Wreck of Unnamed Shipwreck - Canmore 103027

There’s a quiet majesty to the unnamed wreck, Canmore 103027, in Scapa Flow. We love how the water here often has that classic Orkney green hue, adding to the atmosphere as you descend. It’s not one of the big German battleships, but that’s precisely its charm. This is a chance to explore something more intimate, a smaller merchant vessel likely, lying broken but still defiant on the seabed. You’ll find its structure heavily encrusted with plumose anemones, their white tentacles waving gently in the mild current, creating these incredible, soft blankets over the metal. Look into the shadows for scorpionfish, perfectly camouflaged, and we’ve often spotted lobsters tucked into crevices. Our favourite part is navigating the holds; they feel like exploring an old, forgotten attic underwater. The visibility can be variable, but even on a murkier day, the wreck reveals itself slowly, section by section, demanding you get close and really observe. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the slow reclamation of man-made objects by the sea.
