The *Almeria* is one of those Scapa Flow wrecks that just *feels* right. It’s a support vessel, not one of the big cruisers, but that’s precisely what we love about it. The stern section, in particular, is a fantastic penetration dive, especially if you’re looking to practice your finning and navigation in a tighter space. You’ll weave through the collapsed decks and bulkheads, often catching glimpses of light filtering down, illuminating the rusty ironwork. What really makes the *Almeria* a standout, though, is the sheer density of marine life. This isn't just about big pelagics; it's the smaller, more intimate stuff. Look closely and you'll spot snake blennies peering from crevices and the vibrant reds of beadlet anemones clinging to the metalwork. Oarweed and dulse wave gently in the slight currents, giving the wreck a living, breathing quality. We've often found great skuas diving overhead on the surface interval too, a reminder of Orkney’s wild beauty. Visibility here can be excellent, especially on a calm day with a rising tide; aim for that window if you can. It’s a site that rewards multiple dives, each one revealing a new detail.
