City of Grand Rapids (steamer) - Québec

The City of Grand Rapids wreck in Québec is a proper old-school steamship dive. You’re not just looking at a few bits of wood here, it’s a substantial iron hull. We love how the machinery, especially the paddlewheel, is still so identifiable. It really gives you a sense of what she once was. It sits at a depth that's comfortable for most recreational divers, though visibility can be variable depending on the season and recent weather. We'd suggest aiming for late summer or early autumn for the best chance at decent conditions. The cool, clear freshwater means the ironwork is incredibly well preserved, unlike saltwater wrecks where things degrade quickly. As you fin along the deck, you’ll spot Yellow Perch darting between the broken plating. Look closely in the shadowed areas, and you might catch a glimpse of a Mottled Sculpin tucked away. Pike cruise the perimeter, always a thrill to see. We always take our time exploring the engine room, it’s our favourite part. The feeling of swimming through history is palpable here. This site is definitely for divers who appreciate historical wrecks and aren't solely focused on tropical fish. It offers a unique freshwater wreck experience, a proper glimpse into a bygone era.
