City of Sheboygan (Wrack) - Québec

The City of Sheboygan isn’t your typical Caribbean wreck. Down in the cool waters of the St. Lawrence River, this wooden schooner, sunk back in 1915, feels like a ghost from another era. We love how intact she is, especially for her age and the currents that sweep through here. You can still make out the mast, ribs, and much of the hull structure, even though she’s slowly being reclaimed by the riverbed. Exploring the Sheboygan means embracing a different kind of dive. Visibility can swing dramatically, from a murky ten feet to a surprisingly clear forty. Our favourite time to visit is late summer when the water has warmed a bit and the silty bottom has usually settled. Keep an eye out for pike lurking in the shadowy nooks, and we’ve seen some hefty lake whitefish cruising the deeper sections. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the slow, quiet beauty of freshwater wrecks, a real sense of discovering something significant. Just be prepared for cooler temperatures and the ever-present river current.
